Behind the Bottle: a moment with Léa Chonier, founder of Poécile

Poécile is a French fragrance brand built around one idea: every perfume is a landscape. Corsica, Alsace, Normandy, the Alps, the Côte d'Azur. Nine fragrances, nine French destinations. Based in Auvergne, Léa Chonier founded the brand with a clear mission: to place France at the heart of the creative process. Not as a backdrop, but as the raw material itself. The new tenth fragrance, launched in October, takes the journey somewhere unexpected. With Nuit d'Ivresse, Poécile travels all the way to La Réunion: dark rum, flambéed banana, bourbon vanilla, ylang-ylang, then benzoin and mahogany wood in the dry down. Composed by perfumer Patrice Revillard. Vegan, over 90% natural ingredients, bottled responsibly.

Name something ordinary that you find beautiful.
The sky when it turns pink.

The last thing you read, watched, or heard that stayed with you.
A walk in the forest last weekend. The light through the trees, the smell of moss and damp earth. Nature remains my greatest source of inspiration.

What's the hardest part of turning an idea into something real?
Time. You want the idea to come to life immediately, but creation has its own rhythm. You have to learn to be patient — and it's often in that waiting that the project becomes better.

One ingredient you'd ban if you ruled the world.
Coriander. Without hesitation.

What does your studio or home smell like right now?
A baguette. I am very gourmand — so much so that we created a candle that reproduces the smell of bread just out of the toaster, slightly buttered: French Baguette.

If today had a smell, what would it be?
Rain. I live in Auvergne, a very green and mineral region, and I love the smell of rain in the undergrowth.
